From 3 p.m., your rooms will be ready at the Parkhotel St. Leonhard, situated high above Überlingen. From the terraces and many rooms of this comfortable and first-class hotel, you can look far out over Lake Constance, which seems to stretch endlessly to the east and west. Over the next few days, you will not only cycle around this vast lake landscape, you will also get to know much of the culture of this landscape.
At 4 p.m., your tour guides will welcome you at the hotel reception. You will then be driven to the center of Überlingen, where you will begin an expertly guided tour of the old imperial city. You can still clearly see the outlines of the medieval city, which experienced its heyday in the 15th and 16th centuries. Mighty gates and walls have been preserved to this day. But where else can you find a ring of moats and ramparts that have been carved out of the surrounding rock? Only Überlingen can boast this. The soft molasse rock of the hills around Überlingen allowed the town's master builders to create this unique construction. The heart of the old town is picturesquely grouped around the "Hofstatt" square with the town hall and many Gothic stepped gables. The Gothic cathedral of St. Nicholas is also nearby. It is not only impressive on the outside, but also contains precious treasures on the inside. These include the works of art by Überlingen woodcarver Jörg Zürn. He created the sacrament house and a magnificent high altar.
